A four-year doctoral program at the intersection of macroeconomics and finance, run jointly by the Department of Economics and the Institute for Financial Management. It is open to PhD students already enrolled at the University of Bern; there is no separate application.
Core courses
PhD Workshop in Macro-Finance I and II
Advanced topics at the intersection of financial markets and macroeconomics: financial frictions, monetary economics, asset pricing, and the effects of monetary policy on financial stability.
PhD Workshop in Macroeconomics I and II
A platform for PhD students in macroeconomics and finance to exchange ideas, discuss recent developments and modelling approaches, and present early-stage research for feedback.
External lecturers
Each year an international scholar teaches an intensive course in Bern, five days and thirty hours in total, giving students access to the latest research in a specialised field. The current and past lectures are on the External Lectures page.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee ensures that the program is aligned with current research trends and maintains high academic standards. It meets twice a year to assess the program’s progress, review student performance and approve course offerings.
